Big business interests are claiming that implementing a minimum wage increase “too quickly” will result in businesses being shuttered and workers losing jobs. This is an argument we’ve heard before. And it’s not true.
There is no need to phase in a minimum wage increase over the course of nine years for the largest businesses in Tacoma. Why? We have 20 years of real world experience of states and cities raising minimum wages and the data shows that the economic argument against raising the wage doesn’t hold water – jobs are not lost and businesses have thrived.
